Police Blotter
Parole Violation
A Milan man was arrested after violating his parole and attempting a home invasion at 2:38 p.m. June 24.
Police received a call from a woman on Platt Road that someone was attempting to break in the back door. An officer arriving on scene found the man repeatedly running into the door to try and knock it down. The man was told to step away from the door and get on the ground.
After briefly ignoring the officer, the man complied after being warned that he would be “tazed” if he did not follow the officer’s commands.
The man was handcuffed while the officer waited for help. He said he was only trying to speak to the woman inside, who told police he had arrived at the home belligerent and apparently intoxicated. She had locked herself inside for her safety.
The man was known by the reporting officer to be on parole and, according to a report, smelled strongly of alcohol and refused to answer questions about his possible drinking. After his booking, a breath test showed the man to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.28 percent. A blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher is considered drunk under Michigan law. The man was held pending a response from his parole officer.
Assault
Officers responded to a call from an apartment complex on West Main Street at about 4 a.m. June 19. The caller complained that a man had been yelling on a balcony outside the building. The reporting officer found the man and asked him to calm down.
The man repeatedly refused, eventually telling the officer he would have to take him to jail because he wasn’t going to calm down, according to a police report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Milan Police Department for booking. Inside the apartment were two women, who told police that the man had gotten into a fight inside the apartment with several friends. According to the women, they had tried to break up the fight only for one of the women to be punched and slapped by the suspect. He was charged with assault.
Breaking and Entering
The owner of a business on Wabash Street reported to police that when he reported to work the morning of June 17, the south entrance to his building had been forced open. Police found that some kind of prying instrument had been used to wedge the door open until a hasp on the inside of the door frame had been broken. However, the owner could find nothing missing or even out-of-place, including the cash inside the business’s register. The case is closed pending any leads.
