Blossomtime Festival Location: St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Date: April 27-May 4 Event Information: (269) 926-7397 or www.blossomtimefestival.org Encompassing 24 communities, the Blossomtime Festival is a celebration of the agricultural industry in southwest Michigan. All 24 of the communities participate in all of the festival’s events including the Grand Floral Parade held on the first Saturday in May each year when the fruit trees are in bloom. The opening ceremony is the Blessing of the Blossoms, held out-doors in an orchard. A chartered motor-coach with all of the community queens and kings travel to the communities to promote the festival during festival week. Jackson Storyfest Location: Jackson Date: May 2-3 Event Information: (517) 782-4164 or www.jacksonstoryfest.org The mission of Jackson Storyfest is to increase awareness of the importance of storytelling in the home, school and community. In 2002 Jackson Storyfest received the Great Lakes Community Arts Award. This award is given for demonstrating exceptional accomplishment by an arts and cultural organization. No vendors — performances only. Tulip Time Festival Location: Holland Date: May 3-10 Event Information: (800) 822-2770 or www.tuliptime.com With parades, costumed Klompen Dancers, street scrubbings, concerts, fireworks, and 6 miles of tulip lanes, it must be Tulip Time. Holland will host this nationally recognized event celebrating Dutch Heritage and the blooming of millions of tulips. Mesick Mushroom Festival Location: Mesick Date: May 9-11 Event Information: (231) 885-2679 or www.Mesick-Mushroomfest.org The Mesick Lions Mushroom festival features a giant flea market, carnival, horse pull, mud bog and drag race, soft-ball tournaments, arts and craft show, 5-K run, three-on-three basketball and grand parade. Birmingham Fine Art Festival Location: Birmingham Date: May 10-11 Event Information: (248) 644-0866 or www.bbartcenter.org The top-rated juried Birmingham Fine Art Festival annually draws 80,000. About 250 of North America’s finest artists will offer unique artworks in 17 different media, including ceramics, fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, painting, photography, wood, digital and more. Plus, musical entertainment, artists’ demonstrations, children’s arts and science activities and specialty concessions.
