LutherFest 2009
On Sunday, November 1, at 4:00p.m. The Michigan Ohio Chorale and the Light Metal Band under the direction of Erwin Aufdemberge will join the Massed choir from Area Churches in the LutherFest Reformation Choral Festival at Guardian Lutheran Church, 24544 Cherry Hill Street in Dearborn, MI.
The organist for this Service will be John Matthias, Guardian's former Minister of Music. The choirs and congregation will also be accompanied by, strings, flutes and the St. Peter Macomb Handbell Choir.
Music selections included in the service are Reformation favorites: "Crown Him With Many Crowns" by Pelz, "God Is Our refuge and Strength" by Behnke, and "Sine Nomine - For All the Saints" by Williams. A portion of Pachelbel's motet, "Now Thank We All Our God" will also be performed.
John Behnke, Mark Bender, John Eggert and Kevin Hildebrand are four Lutheran musicians who are writing wonderful music for our church today. Their pieces, "Festival Gloria", "We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God", "Sing With All the Saints in Glory" and "Sing Praise to God the Highest Good" are the new selections you will hear and be able to sing at the LutherFest.
In the 1960's Lutherans from all over the Detroit Area joined for a Reformation Service in Cobo Hall. Guardian Lutheran Church may not be able to hold as many people as Cobo Hall but let us fill the church to the rafters and join our voices in songs of praise to the God who is "A Mighty Fortress".
