Dennis Flessland of Huntington Woods, Honorary Consul of Norway in the State of Michigan, will direct his original children’s pageant, based on a Norwegian fairy tale, at the Norway’s Constitution Day celebration this Saturday on the grounds of the Swedish Club, 22398 Ruth St. in Farmington Hills. The public is invited for a children’s parade and games. A picnic lunch, including a selection of Norwegian candies, cheese and potato bread will be available for purchase. And the always popular frozen cod toss competition will round out the day.

Flower sale

Colorful annuals and hanging baskets will be for sale this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when the County Downs Garden Club holds its 39th annual flower sale at 10154 Borgman Ave., corner of Meadowcrest in Huntington Woods. There will also be a master gardener on hand.

Raffle for scholarships

Madison Heights Lamphere Schools provide scholarships to all graduating seniors every year and the district is holding a raffle to benefit the Scholarship Fund. Ten prizes, ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 will be awarded. The winning tickets will be drawn Wednesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at Lamphere High School.

The funds raised will also support Lamphere Athletic Boosters, Lamphere Band Boosters and the Lamphere High School PTO – LAFFS. For ticket information call (248) 589-1990.

Mega garage sale

All proceeds from a countywide mega garage sale this weekend will go to the Oakland Pet Fund Spay and Neuter Fund, which provides free or reduced cost pet sterilization to low-income residents of Oakland County. It will be held at Pet Supplies Plus store, 6845 Highland Road, just east of Bogey Lake Road, near Alpine Ski Lodge in White Lake Township this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Times are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Special day for kids

Kids Day America is an annual event dedicated to children’s health and safety. There’ll be train rides, face painting, a bouncy house and munchies and prize drawings. The Michigan State Police will fingerprint all children. It’s all happening rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center, 4203 Rochester Road, between 13 and 14 Mile roads in Royal Oak. The event benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Oakland County.

Charity motorcyclists ride

Start your engines! “Riding for Independence,” the first annual On My Own of Michigan motorcycle charity ride, is set to blast off this Sunday at noon from Bank of America’s headquarters at 2600 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy. Registration is at 11 a.m. but pre-registration is recommended. Call Kathy at (248) 649-3739. The ride ends at 4 p.m. at Springfield Oaks County Park, exit 93 off I-75, with four scheduled destination stops along the way. There will be prizes, raffles and a barbeque dinner at the park.

On My Own of Michigan helps adults with developmental disabilities become independent, social and contributing members of the community.

Calling all student bands

The Madison Heights Community Coalition is looking for local student bands to battle for fame and prizes Monday, May 26 on stage from 1-4 p.m. at the Madison Heights Civic Park. First prize will be three or four songs recorded by Emmy and Grammy winner Ed Wolfrum of Audio Graphic Services. Second and third prizes will be $100 gift certificates to Cyber Music Gear. He will put on a free seminar, “How to get Recorded — Everything You Need to Know,” for all participants next Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. in the Jaycee Building at Civic Park. Congrats Hazel Park Lions

Congrats to the Hazel Park Lions Club for receiving the Cultural & Community Award from Lions International. District Governor Tony Capozzo presents the award each year to the club that has been the most outstanding in community and cultural activities.

Breakfast in Clawson

American Legion Post 167 is serving a great breakfast this Sunday only from 9 a.m. until noon. Feast on scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, bacon or sausage, toast, orange juice, coffee or tea for just five bucks for adults and three dollars for kids under 12. The American Legion Post is at 655 S. Main St., south of 14 Mile Rd. in Clawson.
